Staff Profile

I have been employed within the School of Engineering as a Senior Chemical and Biological Technician since February 2022.  I provide technical support to academics, postgrads and undergrads using the research facilities in the suite of biolabs based in the Herschel Annex.

I also work alongside the BioHeat research group a few days a week on an externally funded project which is attempting to use microbial fuel cells as a viable way to collect energy from wastewater.

Prior Experience:

Prior to my role in engineering, I worked within the school of pharmacy and specialised in providing technical support to the medicinal chemistry teaching labs but my role also included assisting with pharmaceutics, pharmacology, clinical skills and microbiology classes as and when required.  I also collaborated with the lead academic to develop and support outreach sessions for sixth formers from the local area.

Before working with Newcastle University, I had three years experience of working as a senior technician covering Chemistry, Biology and Physics in a further education college and extensive prior experience of admin/accountancy support both within education and the voluntary sector.

I am a member of the Newcastle University Branch of Unison taking on the role of chair from 2020 until 2022 and am now the elected treasurer.
