Project description
In high power computing, we use a variety of converters, including:
- diode clamping converters
- flying capacitor converters
- cascaded multilevel converters
These converters cannot handle the higher voltage range of 33-400kV. A better solution is to use a modular multilevel converter (MMC).
Nowadays, challenges still exist in this particular field. We need to find better solutions to balance capacitor voltages and minimise circulating current. These solutions will enhance output current quality. Thus, we need to carry out research on modular multilevel converters.
We have reviewed different types of multilevel converters. We have discovered the problems, as well as the corresponding solutions, already accepted by the industry. Our future research focuses on the advanced control of MMCs.
Interests
HVDC (high voltage direct current), power systems, advanced control schemes.
