Modelling distribution networks in Distributed Energy Resources.
Supervisors
Project description
There is a new paradigm of power systems in modern societies. It has occurred due to:
- a move towards zero CO2 emissions
- restructuring of the electricity business
- technological developments in distributed energy resources (DERs)
We are providing modelling methods for the operation of distribution networks with DERs. These are also known as MicroGrids. They include distributed generators, renewable generation, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles.
We focus on networks operated off-grid (or islanded) for an extended and unknown period of time. We aim to improve power system resilience. Such a situation may occur because of an unexpected event hitting the power system, such as a natural disaster or a cyber-attack. It may also be due to a scheduled network maintenance.
