Project description

There is a growing need for new ways to engage and teach students. This is particularly true for engineering students whose subjects are mainly technical. New technologies provide innovative ways to engage students in active learning experiences. These include Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and digital games.

My research considers the use of games, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augment Reality (AR) for Chemical Engineering education. This is a part of the CHARMING-ETN EU H2020 project Chemical Engineering Immersive Learning. We are using immersive technologies to motivate, teach, train and retrain pupils, Chemical Engineering students, and chemical plant operators.

I am developing and testing evaluation methods for assessing gains within a game-based learning environment. I will test the evaluation methods developed in prototype games, VR and AR educational labs. My research colleagues across Europe have developed these.
