James
Civil & Structural Engineering: MEng (Hons).
I like Newcastle as it is a very friendly place. I really liked the campus, especially the older areas like the Quadrangle.
About your course
I like the structure of my course. It is very synoptic in that all that you learn in one area can be applied in a different topic area. I like the modules and I really like how it is a Civil Engineering course from which you can specialise further, rather than a general Engineering course from which you can specialise in Civils. I really like the Design of Sustainable Engineering Systems modules as it draws from all your other modules.
Recommending Newcastle
Go for it. Newcastle’s the best! It is the most friendly city and the nightlife is such a laugh. Also, it’s relatively cheap to live – don’t go down to London; it’s such a rip off.
Living in Newcastle
I would describe Newcastle as a very friendly city. There’s so much going on so there’s always something fun to do. It’s compact and everywhere is within walking distance, which is very convenient.
Clubs and societies
The clubs and societies are good fun. I am a member of the Senior Men’s Squad at Newcastle University Boat Club. We participate in the BUCS competition throughout the year. They are so much fun and we are very successful. We do lots of socials and dinners throughout the year; the latter is very good as we are all in our boat club blazers.
Accommodation
I live in West Jesmond. It is such an awesome area, as it is compact and you can walk anywhere in ten minutes. Everyone knows everyone in Jesmond; it’s a small world and a very nice place to live. It was easy to find a place and there are loads of houses in Jesmond, so you don’t have to worry about finding somewhere.
