The event is part of Newcastle University's series of debates inspired by the Government’s five missions.

The Labour government has promised to reform the education system and break down barriers to opportunity. Meanwhile, reports indicate that a third of all babies, children and young people in the North East are living in poverty. A panel of experts will explore the solutions needed to create a brighter future in the region.

Panellists:

  • Amanda Bailey, Director, North East Child Poverty Commission
  • Dame Irene Lucas-Hays, Chair of the Hays Travel Group
  • Chris Zarraga, Director, Schools North East
  • Nick Harrison, Chief Executive, The Sutton Trust

The panel will be chaired by Professor Rene Koglbauer, Dean of Lifelong Learning and Professional Practice, Newcastle University.
