Attending a Lecture

On this page you can find information on attending a public lecture at Newcastle University. Our event stewards will be on hand to answer any other questions that you might have.

Before you arrive

Registering for tickets

All our events remain free and open to all, but pre-booking is required. Bookings for lectures will open at 10.00am one week before the event.

To reserve your place visit Upcoming Lectures and click on 'Book a Place'. This will take you to the Eventbrite page to complete your booking. If you have previously registered for tickets, you can log in to your account on the Eventbrite website. You can also sign up as a new user.

If you are unable to use the online booking system please email public.lectures@ncl.ac.uk with your full name, contact information and the details of the lecture you would like to book tickets for or leave a message on our booking voicemail line 0191 208 6136.

For school or group bookings, please contact the Public Lectures Team at public.lectures@ncl.ac.uk.

When you arrive

Arrival Time

All INSIGHTS Public Lectures take place in the Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building, NE1 7RY. For information on how to find us see Visiting Us.

To avoid crowding, audience members are asked to arrive for events no earlier than 5.15pm. If you arrive before 5.15pm you may be asked to wait outside the building.

Covid Measures

While no specific Covid measures are in place, face coverings will be available at the event, if you wish to use them. We encourage attendees to use the sanitisation stations and ask you not to attend if you feel unwell.

Check-In

Our event stewards will greet you at a distance. We operate a paperless ticketing system and if you have pre-booked your ticket your name will be on our attendee list at the door.

During the lecture

Ventilation

The Curtis Auditorium is mechanically ventilated (fresh air is both supplied and extracted from the space). Our ventilation systems have been recently checked and serviced to ensure they are performing efficiently and sytems are switched on two hours before the start of the teaching day and continue to run two hours after teaching ends. Doors to the auditorium will be left open to allow for air circulation.

Cleaning

We have increased cleaning in all public areas of the building and especially in areas of high contact.

Watching Lectures Online

Although it is not possible to watch INSIGHTS Public Lectures live, a recording of most events will be available to watch on the Past Lectures page. Pending permission from the speaker, recordings are usually available 24 - 48 hours after the lecture has taken place and will remain on our website for you to enjoy at your leisure.

Disclaimer

The University will make all reasonable efforts to deliver INSIGHTS events. However, it may be necessary to make changes in response to significant disruption.
