Carys Watts is a Senior Lecturer in Enterprise in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences. Her research background is Microbiology, and she leads on Sustainability, Global and Enterprise. She holds Senior Fellowship of the HEA and Academic Fellowship of Enterprise Educators UK, also leading their Academic Pathway network. She is Fellow of the Newcastle University Policy Academy and represents the University at the Heads of University Biosciences (HUBS) Special Interest Group of the Royal Society for Biology. She was awarded the HE Bioscience Teacher of the Year 2024 (Royal Society of Biology)


Carys is Co-Chair of the University Sustainability Committee and has strong cross-campus collaboration as well as with the NUMed Malaysia campus. She co-wrote the school’s successful Athena SWAN application, holds an External Examiner position and School Governor role (SEN and curriculum), and is a parent.
