Jane Gibson OBE

Jane is a Commissioner of Historic England, appointed in 2022. She is also Chair of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Partnership Board.

She is the Chair of Spirit of 2012, a spend-out trust set up by the National Lottery Community Fund as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy funder with a £47million endowment.

Until February 2024 she was a Director of the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership which is now part of the new Combined Authority.

She was the founding chair of Make It York which incorporates Visit York and was previously an advisory board member of National Trust Yorkshire & North East.

After graduating from Hull University with a degree in Drama and English, she started her freelance career in London in theatre, film, radio and TV, whilst living with Doris Lessing as her housekeeper. She then moved to Northumberland where she established a cultural regeneration consultancy. She is a graduate of Newcastle Common Purpose 1997-1998. 

In 2022 she was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Honours List for services to volunteering, heritage and the arts.
