Professor Stephanie Glendinning

Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Science, Agriculture and Engineering

Stephanie Glendinning took up her post as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering in June 2021. Her core responsibilities are to lead and manage one of the biggest faculties in the UK with more than 8000 students and 1200 staff across four schools in the UK and one in Singapore.

Stephanie studied Engineering at Leicester University and began her career in 1998 at Newcastle University as a lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering, in the then department of Civil Engineering. She has specialised in research related to infrastructure, and more recently, the adaptation measures required to sustain extreme weather events and climate change.

Throughout her career, she has seized opportunities to make a difference – starting when she joined with taking on the stage 3 tutor and revamping the dissertation module, moving on to redesigning the Civil Engineering curriculum through an industrial secondment, and on to leading the Urban Sciences agenda.

Stephanie previously held the Dean of Strategic Projects role in the faculty where she excelled in delivering high profile projects, including the Urban Sciences Building, bringing together academia and industry from a range of disciplines to create world class research facilities that address global sustainability challenges.
