Design Unit: Our Services

Design Unit offers a comprehensive range of training services to support both gear manufacturers and gear users, delivered in an informal manner. Typical courses include:

  • How gears work and gear terminology
  • Good gear design practice: balancing power density improvements and minimising risk and noise
  • Gear specification
  • Gear stress analysis, with ISO6336, scuffing risk
  • Gear measurement and calibration
  • Material testing
  • Material analysis methods
  • Failure modes and failure recognition
  • Gear testing

These are often delivered in association with the British Gear Association (BGA).
