In what ways was studying Politics at Newcastle important for getting this job?
It provided me with the necessary skills and background knowledge into UK/international politics and social research methods. I also acquired really helpful project management skills and developed the ability to communicate complex ideas in various forms to different audiences (specialist and non-specialist) during my time at Newcastle.
How do you employ skills learnt during your degree, in your current job?
The ability to accurately synthesise a broad range of evidence is a central feature of my work as an analyst in government where I regularly present research findings to stakeholders within and outside government.
I also frequently draw from my research methods training when conducting and managing research projects.
What extra-curricular activities or societies were you involved in during your time here?
I served as student representative of my cohort at Masters and PhD level which gave me very helpful insights into liaising between stakeholders.
What was the best thing about studying Politics at Newcastle?
The wide range of expertise amongst the staff and the delivery of a well-rounded course programme which gave me the opportunity to study a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches.
