Project description
My project investigates how internal migration affects regional inequalities and how this contributes to the processes of spatial stratification in England.
Using a combination of publicly available quantitative data and qualitative interviews, I aim to identify regions with the highest inward and outward migration in England, identify the main drivers associated with this migration, investigate the effects that inward and outward migration have on a region, and determine whether this migration contributes to regional inequalities and the processes of spatial stratification.
Furthering our understanding of spatial stratification, and the role played by migration, is important partly from an economic development perspective, but more importantly, as a matter of social justice, a point rarely emphasised in discussions on regional inequalities.
It can help with our understanding of how spatial inequalities are created, maintained, and crucially, how they can be improved, having implications for service provision and policy development.
Research interests
I am interested in regional and health inequalities and the political economy of health.
