About Ria

I'm originally from the West Country and have a great love of travelling, reading, and cooking. I originally started in Fine Art where I specialised in printmaking and artivism, afterwards, I started an MA in Art and Politics where I found my love for philosophy and sitting in libraries.

Project description

My work currently specialises in the destruction of monuments in Latvia and Germany, focusing on aesthetic analysis and memory politics. Building on my MA dissertation focusing on the destruction of sites in France by the Nazis and similar examples of destruction by ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The aim of this is to try and formulate a framework for how we can view these sites. Especially societies reaction to difficult and traumatic community memories that can be associated with them. What enables certain statues with equally distressing pasts to survive when others do not?
