About Stuti

My academic and more so my non-academic engagement is deeply rooted in my love for the eastern Himalayas – the land and its people. My love for the Himalayas, however, is felt, expressed and understood through the critical lens of gender in both my writing and everyday conversations.

Project description

My research explores the intersection of gender and differentiated citizenship practices in the eastern Himalayan borderlands. More specifically, the project focuses on the erstwhile Himalayan kingdom and now the Indian border state of Sikkim as a case study to understand how women experience their differentiated citizenship rights within the legal structure of customary laws and their layered ethnic and indigenous state membership especially through the institution of marriage.

Personal interests

I enjoy hosting get-togethers with friends and family and cook elaborate meals which is usually a fusion of Nepali and Bhutanese cuisine. Practicing the philosophy of Yoga (mostly asanas) is my comfort space and I work towards enhancing its experience every day.
