I am a Mildred Blaxter fellow in the Department of Sociology at Newcastle University, supported by the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness. My work considers the increasing interest in community-acquired urinary tract infection on a national and international level as a target of policy making around antimicrobial resistance, alongside older concerns about the patient experience.
Prior to joining Newcastle University, I worked at the University of Sussex as a postdoctoral research fellow on the Wellcome Trust funded Marginalisation and the Microbe research project. I hold a PhD from the department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Sussex. My doctoral thesis explored the roles offered and taken up by patients and publics in different settings around urinary tract infections in the UK through ethnographic research.
I am committed to building capacity for equitable and careful mobilisations on antimicrobial resistance through sociological work with different overlapping groups such as patients, clinicians and public health workers.
I am a member of the British Sociological Association, the government's Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Prescribing, Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection and IMPART, a study based at the University of Cardiff which will develop a decision aid for women suffering from recurrent UTI.
