I am a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Newcastle University, researching Sino-Russian disinformation synergies during UK and USA elections. This project is part of my ongoing research on the Sino-Russian relationship, their areas of cooperation, alignment prospects, and triangular dynamics with the USA.
My academic journey includes holding various positions, such as Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Exeter, Associate Lecturer at UCL, where I also acted as Co-Director of the Political Science Department's Ethics Committee, and Associate Lecturer at UBIC, Bradford University. Prior to these roles, I was a Teaching Fellow at SOAS University.
I hold a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Minho in Portugal, a Master’s degree in International Political Economy from Panteion University of Athens in Greece, and a Bachelor’s degree in International and European Studies from the University of Piraeus, Greece. During my doctoral studies, I was also a visiting researcher at King's College London, Newcastle University in the UK, and Saint Petersburg State University in Russia (online).
I have taught subjects in international relations, foreign policy, China, and research methods, with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative designs.
My research focuses on international relations theory and the foreign policies of great powers, particularly China, Russia, and the U.S. Currently, my research agenda includes the following areas: Sino-Russian disinformation strategies, China’s engagement in the Middle East, Sino-Russian economic coercion practices, and great power competition in emerging technologies. I employ a range of systematic methodological approaches, including bibliometric analysis. My expertise lies in quantitative research, particularly in working with R and large datasets from platforms such as Twitter (now X).
My work has been published in leading journals in political science and international relations, including the Journal of Chinese Political Science and Europe-Asia Studies. I have testified before the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission in the United States Congress and was awarded the 2024 ISA Workshop Grant. Additionally, I have contributed commentary and short pieces to international think tanks and media outlets such as the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, NBC, and the Associated Press (AP). I also serve as a reviewer for academic journals and evaluate book proposals.
