Roles and Responsibilities
My role involves working with a range of colleagues to maximise societal impacts from HaSS research through a range of strategic and operational activities. My day-to-day responsibilities include:
- developing and realising impact strategy alongside the Dean/Associate Dean of Research and Innovation and Head of Faculty Research
- providing project support for the delivery of research impact initiatives resulting from University strategy and Faculty research plans
- leading the operational delivery of research impact to maximise performance in REF assessment exercises, including contributing to strategic decisions and planning through the University and Faculty REF Steering Groups, training, and supporting academic colleagues in our REF Units of Assessment
- working with researchers to help them develop external engagement, KE and impact strategies, including: supporting them to identify target audiences and user groups; review and prioritise impact strategy objectives and activities; and track, record and evaluate impact activities and supporting evidence
- offering lay peer reviews of external funding bids to ensure impact is embedded (where relevant)
- leading on the development of training in areas of impact, engagement and knowledge exchange
- organising and contributing to internal events to share best practice, facilitate knowledge sharing and discussion on impact and support
- leading and chairing the HaSS Impact Forum and working closely with Directors of Impact (school level) and Impact Coordinators (subject level) to support awareness raising and capacity building in Schools
- liaising with the Press Office to promote the positive impact Faculty research is having on policy and practice, education, the economy, culture and society.
My role involves working with a number of colleagues and teams, including: the wider HaSS Research & Innovation team (research impact, research funding development, business development), the University Research Office; Research Impact Officers from other Faculties; and PS research networks within academic units.
I am a Policy Academy Fellow and I also sit on the Policy Academy Special Advisory Group.
Previous Faculty Roles
In my previous role as Research Associate with responsibility of research impact, I was involved in preparing impact case studies for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. Post REF, I worked with researchers from across the Faculty to develop impact, public engagement and knowledge exchange strategies, and to build pathways to impact and evaluation measures into research proposals and existing projects.
