Staff Profile
Kelechi Dibie
Equality & Diversity Project Officer
Kelechi’s role as an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Officer for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (HaSS) is to utilise her expertise and experience as an Equality & Diversity Practitioner to influence, advocate and promote productive relationships among the diverse staff and student population in HaSS. The aim is to reduce workplace discrimination on the grounds of all nine protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010. Kelechi also supports the Faculty in its adoption of the Athena-SWAN principles for gender equality by engaging and supporting all Schools within HaSS, which are applying for recognition under the Charter. She supports the Schools not just to develop and embed an EDI agenda that embraces all activities, policies and governance arrangements but also find creative solutions to EDI issues.
Kelechi’s career experience spans across local government, voluntary and community sectors, where she had unique opportunities to work with diverse groups of service users including borough residents from a wide range of backgrounds; stakeholders from multiagency partnerships; and various community networks. Her main strengths lie in her extensive knowledge and practice experience of EDI governance and casework; organising accessible engagement & consultation exercises; bespoke training development and delivery. She is very passionate about projects that make a difference to under-represented, disadvantaged, marginalised or socially excluded groups in society. Her previous management roles in Social Care within the public and voluntary sector organisations involved working with a diverse range of service users with various forms and/or degree of disabilities; looked-after children; elderly mentally infirm; and unpaid carers.
