I work as a Centre Director supporting students to study multi subject and develop interdisciplinary skills at UG level. To enhance and stretch student learning I engage routinely in pedagogic scholarship at a national level that supports a high-quality academic professional community of practice. My work designing and developing inclusive learning through transition activity and curricula has led me to present at a variety of broad reaching events. My presentations impact positively on teaching and learning; both students and staff. Locally I ensure that our scholarship events are open to postgraduates and undergraduates as well as staff, and I aim to use grants and bids to support all learning to encourage access for all (eg early career staff can attend and benefit from the input of more established colleagues). In this way, I am training, mentoring and educating other teachers routinely. My work with Advance HE, RAISE and broader networks increases my influencing capacity as an educationalist and student engagement scholar.
In the past I have taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students in 3 other universities, keen to evolve assessment and feedback to more flexible and address the social justice challenges our current approaches draw. I have also facilitated the learning of new academic colleagues in other universities to develop their teaching practices and continue to undertake this role here at Newcastle as Chair of the Fellowship Scheme Recognition Panel and mentor.
