Faculty Research Infrastructure

Alongside our academic Schools, the Faculty supports research institutes, groups and centres to enable interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research Institutes  within our Faculty

Our three research Institutes promote and support cross-disciplinary research. They foster the work of colleagues across the Faculty, whatever their career stage.

Newcastle University Centres of Research Excellence

The University's Centres of Research Excellence (NUCoREs) have been created to deliver world-leading research and impact in areas that span the full range of disciplines. Although they include researchers from each of the University’s three Faculties, several of these NUCoREs are led by our Faculty.

Faculty Research Groups

Working across and between our individual schools, Faculty Research Groups (FRGs) support collaboration in specific areas. FRGs bring together researchers from diverse academic backgrounds. They share their approaches and expertise. They also nurture, coordinate and produce interdisciplinary research and impact.

If you have a general enquiry regarding our Faculty Research Groups, please email facultyresearchgroups@newcastle.ac.uk.

Research Centres

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the base for a number of research centres, each embedded in one of our Schools. They have a distinguished history, with a long record of supporting innovative, cross-disciplinary research. The Centres make important contributions to policy, society and culture on a local, national and global scale.
