About Holly-Ann's career
What is your current role?
I am currently a Project Manager working for Newcastle Health Innovation Partners which the university is a partner. Within this role, my remit is to support the Education and Training committee with the delivery of projects across the partnership. The activity ranges from unique student placement opportunities to developing training programmes.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy engaging with our stakeholders to co-create solutions, partnership working is complex with each partner having a variety of needs, working through these issues can be challenging but rewarding.
My undergraduate degree developed my research and organisational skills, archaeology has a huge amount of transferable skills
Studying Archaeology at Newcastle University
Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?
I love that Newcastle is a city with lots to do, the beach and the countryside are on your doorstep with lots of heritage. Plus, Newcastle is a foodie city with lots to try.
I chose to study at Newcastle because I had been studying archaeology at Newcastle College for my A-levels, the university had offered a variety of sessions to the college and everyone I met was so friendly, the course sounded really interesting as it varied from pre-history to historical archaeology.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
The encouragement I received from my tutors was amazing, as part of my dissertation I learned how to carry out a GPS survey. Secondly, the excavation experience and I made some of my closest friends during those 2-week excavations.
How did studying Archaeology at Newcastle University prepare you for your current role?
My undergraduate degree developed my research and organisational skills, archaeology has a huge amount of transferable skills.
What other things did you do at University which have helped you get a job?
In my third year, I was President of the Archaeology Society and this helped me to develop my leadership and team-building skills. Additionally, I had a part-time job throughout my degree which helped me to develop my time management skills.
