University Fellow wins Northern Writers' Award
Dr Laura Tisdall, NUAcT Fellow in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology has been presented with the Arvon Award as part of New Writing North’s Northern Writers’ Awards

At a ceremony which took place on 25 June 2024, Laura won one of 15 awards presented by New Writing North.
The Arvon Award is linked to the writers’ retreat from which it takes its name. As part of her award, Laura receives a free writing retreat at one of Arvon’s writing houses where she will benefit from dedicated writing time and tutoring from established authors.
Laura Tisdall is a Senior Lecturer in Modern British History at Newcastle University and won the Arvon Award for her current novel-in-progress, New Mothers. Her research focusses on childhood, adolescence, adulthood and chronological age. She is also currently writing a non-fiction book for Yale University Press London, which will tell the history of Cold War Britain through the voices of children and teenagers.
