Archaeologists celebrate Sycamore Gap

Newcastle University Archaeologists band together to celebrate Sycamore Gap with new book publication

10 May 2024

The book 'Hadrian’s Wall in our Time' is a celebration of the beloved tree along Hadrian’s Wall that was cut down in September 2023.

Initiated by David Breeze, archaeologist and Honorary Professor with the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, around 80 friends and colleagues, including staff and alumni of Newcastle University, were invited to contribute to the book; writing about their favourite place on Hadrian's Wall.

The result is a wide-ranging group of personal contributions about the Wall, its artefacts and records, including a new composition for the Northumbrian pipes, Mind the Gap, played at the launch.
