A vibrant and active community

Join a welcoming community of students and researchers as you learn about different ways to understand the human past. Our classroom extends beyond the library, to the laboratory and in the field.

Fieldtrip opportunities within the UK and abroad are regularly available, whether organised through student societies or as part of ongoing research projects.

Our new field school excavating a Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall allows students to gain essential archaeological skills while making significant discoveries at a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Research-led teaching

Our research and expertise inform our teaching. Students have the opportunity to join experts in the lab or in the field, as they learn by participating in ongoing research projects.
