English language and visa requirements

If your first language isn't English you will generally need an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent, to study at Newcastle University. Some courses have different requirements, so please check the course you want to study.

Scholarships available for students from Hong Kong

Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships - Undergraduate (2025 entry)

We are pleased to offer 30 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship awards for outstanding applicants who apply for full-time undergraduate study at Newcastle University.

  • There are 30 up to 50% tuition fee scholarships.

Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships - Postgraduate (2025 entry)

Newcastle University is pleased to offer 30 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships (VCES) for outstanding international applicants who apply to commence full-time Master’s studies on an eligible programme.

Societies

You will have the opportunity to build relationships with other students from around the world. We have over 200 societies and sports clubs that you can join. 

The International Society brings together students of different nationalities. This can help you to settle into the local environment and promotes cultural diversity on our campus.

The Hong Kong Society aims to bring together students from Hong Kong by organising:

How to apply

All applications for undergraduate degrees are made online through UCAS.

Postgraduate applications are made through our online portal.

Undergraduate transfer

If you are interested in applying for a transfer to Newcastle University, please email us with your course choice for more information.

Please note that:

  • we are only able to accept transfer requests into the second year of an undergraduate degree
  • not all courses are eligible for transfer requests
  • we do not offer top-up courses at our university
