Developing Intervention Methods for Social Learning in Public Services: The Case of Digital Care for Older People
- Project Leader: Gregory Maniatopoulos
- Sponsors: HASS Faculty Research Fund, University of Newcastle
The problems of an ageing population are well known as a major policy concern within the UK and across Europe. One of the affordances offered by digital technologies is to make it possible for the elderly to become more actively engaged in their own care whilst at the same time offering possibilities for remote monitoring. However, turning such possibilities into working systems in practice requires considerable appropriation in the user domain to deal with complex issues such as rights to access, share and provide consent with regard to information and the systems of governance required to regulate and co-ordinate the work of different public agencies. This projects aims to illustrate the development of an intervention methodology to assist practitioners in the appropriation of digital healthcare technologies.
