Newcastle University colleagues visit a landscape exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery
On Wednesday 12th July colleagues from across Newcastle University attended the exhibition ‘Essence of Nature’ at the Laing Art Gallery, led by the Centre for Landscape and Newcastle University Institute for Creative Arts Practice.
According to the Laing, 'this significant exhibition traces radically different approaches to depicting the natural world'.
The aim of this visit was to bring together researchers from different perspectives together to share ideas, impressions, and responses to paintings of landscapes. Keeper of Art Sarah Richardson led a tour of the exhibit, which was followed by a discussion session. The event included colleagues from Fine Art, Creative Writing, Architecture Planning and Landscape, Music, History Classics and Archaeology, and the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, who contributed their varied observations to the wide-ranging discussion. The intention is that this visit will be a prototype for similar, interdisciplinary, activities.
