Jennifer is a Senior Lecturer in Law and an academic lead for the Law School's Partners Widening Participation Programme. Jennifer teaches Legal Institutions and Methods, EU Law in the UK and environmental law. Jennifer has an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and Mentoring and is an MBTI Step I and II practitioner.
Jennifer has previously worked as a solicitor in private practice. She completed her training contract at Dickinson Dees LLP, qualifying into the Environment & Safety team in 2004. She became an associate in 2009. Whilst in practice Jennifer advised a wide cross section of public and private sector clients on contentious and non-contentious environmental and regulatory issues including environmental, health and safety, trading standards and disability discrimination matters. Jennifer represented clients in relation to a range of regulatory investigations and has experience of civil and criminal procedure in the Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Court and the County Court. She also routinely advised clients on environmental risks arising in property, corporate and commercial transactions as well as in insolvency proceedings. Jennifer’s experience also includes working in-house for an international chemical company where she gained experience in a wide variety of commercial matters, including utility contracts, waste disposal matters, corporate transactions and nuisance issues.
Before joining Newcastle Law School Jennifer worked as a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University Law School where she taught environmental law and civil procedure, law and evidence across the undergraduate, LLM, LPC and BPTC programmes. Jennifer also established and supervised students in ‘The Environmental Law Project’, a pro bono legal clinic for environmental cases.
Jennifer is the Module Tutor for Legal Institutions and Method and also teaches Environmental Law, Land Law and EU Law. She is also an Academic Lead for the Law School Partners Programme.
