Canvas Blueprints and Course Enrolments

NEW: A vision for education and skills at Newcastle University: Education for Life 2030+

Canvas Blueprints

Canvas Blueprint template is a course template applied to all courses on Newcastle University’s Canvas platform. This blueprint is developed through a process of gathering feedback from both students and staff via surveys conducted by the Learning Development and Teaching Service. Each school is contacted in Semester 2 to request any custom links they may require for their school.

The finalised template is then applied to all courses released in June.

Canvas New Courses Guidance

There are resources on how to use and develop your course using the Canvas Blueprint template on the New Courses page of this Canvas site. It includes step-by-step instructions for setting up new courses, importing content, and customising course settings. Additionally, it offers tips on managing course materials, assignments, and assessments to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Canvas Enrolments

Staff Enrolments

Module Leaders and Lecturers are enrolled onto Courses via the MOF system.

This happens when the course is created in June and any changes after this point will need to made manually in the Canvas course.

It is important that MOFs are checked to ensure the right staff are enrolled. This can be checked in the “Core Info” section of a MOF under “Contributors”.

For roles outside of Module Leader such as Teaching Assistants (TA) etc, will need to be manually enrolled.

Student Enrolments

Students are enrolled onto Courses via the SAP Module Booking System.

Each day at around 6am, Canvas and SAP update. In this update any new enrolments will be added or old enrolments removed*.

It is important to ensure that a student’s module record on SAP is up to date.
