Strategic Collaborations
NEW: A vision for education and skills at Newcastle University: Education for Life 2030+
Race Equality Charter
The University has been awarded a Race Equality Charter (REC) Bronze Award by Advance HE in recognition of its work towards tackling race inequality in higher education.
The Inclusive Newcastle Knowledge Centre has been involved in the submission of the REC through the Centre's Lead, Professor Alison Shaw, leading on the Students Workstream. This workstream agreed on three broad objectives:
- Improve access to Newcastle University for home students from Black and minoritised ethnic groups
- Building on the Decolonising NCL campaign to increase students’ sense of belonging and community through their curriculum experience
- Review and improve the provision of financial support for home and international students from Black and minoritised ethnic groups
More details on the University's commitment to anti-racism can be found on the Race Equality webpage and in the full REC application.
University of Sanctuary
Newcastle University aims to provide a welcoming place of safety for all and was awarded University of Sanctuary Status in June 2021. This demonstrates the University's commitment to supporting refugees and people in the asylum system.
The Inclusive Newcastle Knowledge Centre has been involved in this work through the Centre's Lead, Professor Alison Shaw's membership of the Newcastle University Sanctuary Steering Group.
More information on the University of Sanctuary and its related initiatives can be found on their webpage.
