Conference Success - AGN Populations Across Continents and Cosmic Time

The conference which was co-hosted by Newcastle and Durham University, brought together ~100 astronomers, working on supermassive black holes and galaxy evolution.

There was a focus on supporting African astronomers and institutions (~45% of attendees), with significant funding raised to bring them to Newcastle/Durham. The African astronomers, typically have little-to-no research funding; therefore, for many this was their first ever international conference.

There was a large emphasis on making people feel included and respecting the diversity of the applicants, whilst having a productive week of sharing science and fostering new collaborations (across continents!).

 

 

 

The team at Newcastle put a huge amount of effort into organising the conference, from supporting the logistics of travel, designing activities before/during the workshop and keep everything very organised throughout the week.
