Background
Currently a Lecturer in the School of MSP & the Manager of the Maths Aid service, Dave joined NU Solve (formerly ISRU), the University's statistical outreach unit, in 2001 after graduating from Newcastle University with a Masters in Mathematics and Statistics. He has worked for business and industrial clients within the manufacturing, service and healthcare sectors, finding innovative solutions to practical problems. He is experienced in engagement activities including consultancy, organisational development, learning programmes and placement student supervision.
Experience:
- Designing and delivering Continuous Improvement (including Lean Six Sigma) programmes for business and industry throughout the UK
- Designing and delivering applied statistics training programmes to a broad range of organisations from local SMEs to large public sector institutions
- Providing technical consultancy to assist client organisations with data analysis and process improvement using established techniques
- Teaching across all Newcastle University Faculties in statistical techniques and the use of statistical software
Roles and Responsibilities
Dave works on outreach projects with NU Solve clients. He has a broad and diverse experience in applying Lean Six Sigma and applied statistics methodologies in the private and public sector, in manufacturing, service and healthcare environments. He provides training, coaching, consultancy and advice on the application of techniques such as Design of Experiments (DoE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Reliability Analysis and statistical software packages. As well as outreach projects, Dave is the module leader for NBS8229 – Quality Management, Tools & Techniques, MCR8019 – Clinical Research Statistics, MAR8085 – Marine Statistics, CMB2000 - Statistics for Biomedicine and manages Maths Aid – the free, confidential drop-in service for all non-Maths, Stats, Physics UGs & PGTs at Newcastle University.
