Background
Having successfully studied for an MMath degree followed by a PhD (Thesis title: The Neolithic of Europe: Mathematical Modelling and Radiocarbon Dates) in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Newcastle University I went on to train as a Secondary School Mathematics Teacher. I taught GCSE Mathematics and A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in local secondary schools for 7 years and in March 2016 returned to the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University to take up the role of Lecturer and Transition Officer.
As Transition Officer my roles and responsibilities include:
- Stage 1 pastoral and academic support
- Monitoring Stage 1 attendance and academic performance
- Stage 1 induction (extended for 2020-21)
- Providing Stage 1 generic drop-ins
- Tutorial delivery and assistance
- Teaching (although not in Stage 1 Maths programmes).
Other roles and responsibilities:
- Academic lead for Outreach (including Further Maths at Newcastle University)
