Staff Profile
Dr Ryan Doran
Lecturer in Physics or Astrophysics
I first joined Newcastle University as an undergraduate on the MMath program. After graduating, I completed my PhD in applied mathematics, with the thesis title 'Rotation, Vortex Dynamics and Disorder in Non-Equilibrium Bose Gases'. I am currently a lecturer in Physics and Astrophysics.
I am an active member of the School of Mathematic, Statistics and Physics Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee.
My research interests are in the theoretical treatment of ultra-cold quantum gases, working on problem involving dynamics and turbulence of 2 and 3 dimensional Bose Einstein Condensates.
My research interests include:
- Numerical modelling of Bose Einstein Condensates (BECs)
- Dynamics of quantum vortices
- Turbulence and disorder in BECs
- Two-component BECs
Please note that I have an open door policy.
