In 2023, I joined Newcastle University as a Research Assistant in the Policy Research Unit (PRU) in Behavioural Science. I work as part of a multidisciplinary team for a feasibility study investigating Shared Medical Appointments for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Having worked as a Clinical Scientist in Respiratory and Sleep Physiology in the NHS over the last 11 years I have diverse experience spanning both clinical and research environments. My NHS role involved running physiologist-led clinics, performing diagnostic tests, interpreting the results, and providing treatment for patients with a range of respiratory and sleep disorders. I continue this work alongside my role with the University and have professional registration with the HCPC and ARTP.
In 2017, I completed the Scientist Training Program and my MSc in Clinical Science at Newcastle University. Alongside my clinical duties I conducted my own research project validating the use of visual analogue scales for measuring change in symptoms for patients with interstitial lung disease.
Due to my background working in healthcare I am especially interested in clinical research, ensuring that patients directly benefit from our findings thus improving patient care. Currently I am the project co-ordinator for a feasibility study investigating Shared Medical Appointments for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
My previous research and involvement in wider research projects have focused on patients with respiratory disease and sleep disorders and these are areas of particular interest to me.
I am an Associate Lecturer on the MSc Clinical science programme at Newcastle University, contributing to the module syllabus and delivering lectures to students on Lung function and Clinical Research.
