I am a GP retainer in County Durham (2 sessions a week) and also the Course Director for Learning Communities at Newcastle University (4 sessions a week).
As a GP I lead on teaching for year 5 students in the practice and have experience of teaching all years of the MBBS curriculum.
As part of my Course Director role I lead a team of 34 PPD (personal and professional development tutors) and am responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the Learning Communities aspect of the Newcastle MBBS curriculum.
Qualifications:
MBBS with Merit (Newcastle University) 2001
MRCGP with Merit 2007
Certificate of Medical Education (2023)
I have been involved in teaching all years of Newcastle MBBS students. Currently I supervise final year students in my GP practice and am a PPD tutor for the A101 students in the Learning Communities.
I have some research experience through my role as a GP teaching fellow where the focus of my work was on developing GP tutorials for final year students. As part of this, all students were asked to undertake a SusQI (Sustainability Quality Improvement) project. This part of the curriculum was evaluated and led on by Dr Jenna Chambers, and a report was published in The Clinical Teacher.
I am also a lead for the research and evaluation group for Learning Communities.
