GO Global Scholarship
The University is pleased to offer the ‘GO Global Scholarship’ to help support students from underrepresented groups to undertake a global placement in 2025.

Award Summary
There are three values of award depending on the opportunity undertaken:
- £1,500 for placements in EU countries
- £2,000 for placements in Non-EU countries
- £500 for virtual placements
The Scholarship is open to students undertaking a global placement which has been approved by the Global Opportunities Team and should commence between the end of May 2025 and early September 2025. Placements must be undertaken outside of the academic term.
Payment of the Scholarship will be made on confirmation of the placement (for example a placement offer or registration document from the host organisation), and once students have met all of the necessary administrative requirements.

Scholarships will be awarded to students as and when they secure a placement for 2025. Dates will vary depending on the placement chosen.
We anticipate a high demand for Scholarships. Funding will be awarded on a first come-first served basis throughout the application period.
Eligibility Criteria
You must be a current Newcastle University student (final year students included) to be eligible. You must also meet at least one of the eligibility criteria below:
- In receipt of the NCL Opportunity Scholarship/have an annual household income of under £40,000*
- Care leaver/ Care Experienced
- Carer/ Caring Responsibilities
- Estranged Student
- Refugee/ Asylum Seeker
- Gypsy/ Roma Travelling Community
- Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic group (BAME) & your latest educational establishment must be UK state-funded
Please note: we have a very limited amount of funding for postgraduate and international students. Please ensure you apply early.
All eligible students are welcome to apply. However, we wish to support as many students to go abroad as possible and therefore, if we are over-subscribed, we may preference applications from students whose degree programmes do not already include a global placement and/or, they have had limited experience of travelling abroad. Scholarships will be allocated on a rolling basis.

*The Terms and Conditions document is for reference/ information only. The GO team will issue students with an individual copy of these at a later stage in the application process.
Application Dates
Scholarship applications open on Wednesday 4 December 2024 and will close on Sunday 29 June 2025 (or until the funding is exhausted).
Funding will be allocated on a rolling basis throughout the application period.
We encourage eligible students to submit a funding application at the earliest opportunity, even if they haven’t made a firm decision on which summer opportunity to pursue. We will work with you over the coming months to help you select an appropriate placement.
How to Apply
Applications will be managed via Terra Dotta, the university’s global placement system. Applications for summer 2025 will open in late autumn 2024.
The application process includes the submission of an online form and a short personal statement. Your application will be assessed based on these documents GO Global Scholarship Application instructions have been provided.
The Global Opportunities team will review applications on a weekly basis throughout the application period. We aim to inform students on the outcome of their application within two weeks of receipt.
