Aims

The module considers in depth various issues relating to the nature of money, demand and supply of money, money and economic activity, the role of the central bank.

Outline Of Syllabus

Introduction: the nature of money, the monetary economy and monetary measurement.
Supply and demand for money.
The transmission mechanism from money to aggregate demand.
The Central Bank.
The conduct of monetary policy.

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

Knowledge of the nature and measurement of money and its link to credit; supply and demand for money; the transmission of monetary policy; the nature and purpose of the central bank and rules for monetary policy.
