Aims
The module aims to provide an understanding of the key concerns faced by developing countries today and how to use economic tools and reasoning to develop a better understanding of these problems and potential solutions.
Outline Of Syllabus
This module will cover topics such as:
- Introduction to development and measurement of key indicators of development
- (Intuitive) introduction to causal inference
- Agriculture
- Human capital: health and education
- Geography and institutions
- Credit and microfinance
- Fertility and gender
- Conflict
- Foreign aid

Intended Knowledge Outcomes
An appreciation of the complex nature of growth and development in low and lower-middle income countries. An ability to apply economic principles and critical analysis to the problems, policies and institutions in these economies.
