This masterclass will discuss the current landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and some of its impacts and consequences in the world today.

We'll be joined by Dr Scott Stainton who will explore AI through different lenses to assess the current state of AI for:

  • The good uses in areas such as threat detection for law enforcement, lifesaving diagnoses in medical imaging, and augmenting and accelerating human decision making.
  • The bad uses for malicious purposes such as sophisticated phishing and impersonation attacks, chemical weapon synthesis, and autonomous terrorism.
  • The ugly side of AI, how exploitation of AI can erode trust and hypothesising on the future of AI and its ramifications for national security.

Meet Dr Scott Stainton

Dr Scott Stainton is the Technology Director at Collaboraite, a human centred Data and AI company primarily focussed in the secure government and law enforcement space, where he leads their Data and AI technology strategy.

His prior life in academia started with his PhD investigating the use of AI in communication networks for autonomous vehicles, and subsequently moved into the fields of AI for low power embedded devices and medical imaging.

Before joining Collaboraite, he co-founded an AI consultancy that received a national start-up innovation award and is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups for both AI and Blockchain.
