She's Always Hungry: Eliza Clark

CANCELLATION NOTICE: She's Always Hungry: Eliza Clark

‘Visceral and transgressive, eerie and playful…’ Colin Walsh

‘A firecracker of a book.’ Guardian

A teenager longs for perfect skin. A scientist tends to fragile alien flora. A young man takes the night into his own hands. Each of these characters has a desperate desire. Can any of them be sated? Unsettling, revelatory, and laced with her signature dark humour, Eliza Clark’s debut short story collection plumbs the depths of that most basic human feeling: hunger.

Eliza Clark was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne. She is the author of the celebrated novels Boy Parts (2020) and Penance (2023). In 2020 Boy Parts was Blackwells Fiction Book of the Year, and in 2022 Eliza was chosen as a finalist for the Women’s Prize Futures Award for writers under thirty-five. She was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 2023. She also writes for film and television. A stage adaptation of Boy Parts premiered at Soho Theatre, London in October 2023.

Alex Pheby is Professor of Creative Writing (Prose) at Newcastle University.

This event has been postpone for ongoing UCU strike action on campus. We hope to reschdule this event so Eliza Clark is able to visit us in the Autumn.
