Checklist

It is essential that you register via the Student Portal as early as possible to allow you to access the Induction resources on Canvas and complete a number of other activities by the end of the Induction period.

You should make sure you complete each of these actions:

Complete your online registration

All students need to register each year via the Student Portal. Once registered, this is where you can request a Council Tax Certificate or a bank letter and see who your personal tutor is.

Log in to the Student Portal and collect your Smartcard

Log in to the Student Portal for your digital smartcard and lots of other useful features.

Your smartcard gives you access to the library, sports centre, other University facilities.

Find out more about how to collect your Smartcard.

Access your University email and Canvas

You should check your University email daily for updates relating to your studies.

It is also important to review the material within the School's SNES Community on Canvas, which includes further Induction information and handbooks. Find out how to get started with the University's IT services.

Read through the online induction material and attend your School induction activities

Most activities take place in person during Induction week but there is also lots of material available online. Online material will be available on the SNES Community on Canvas.

Collect and set up your tablet (new UG students)

On Monday 16th September collect your kit (if applicable for your programme) and tablet from Baddiley-Clark Building, Seminar Room.

Remember to bring your smartcard and log in to your tablet prior to your tablet tutorial later in the week.

Meet with your personal tutor

Make sure you meet with your personal tutor; you can find out who your tutor is on the Student Portal.

Details of when and where to meet them will be on your programme page on SNES Community on Canvas for UG students. PG students will meet with your tutor after Induction week.

New UG students should also meet your peer mentor during Induction, who will already have been in touch with you.

Check your programme timetable for teaching

Your timetable is available online from Monday 19th August and you can also view this on the Student Portal.

Changes to the timetable may be necessary throughout the year. You should check your timetable regularly as this may vary on a weekly basis.

Remember to look at the Student Welcome pages before you arrive.
