Sustaining Our Coastal Heritage
This project championed the value of local knowledge.
This project provided opportunities for the Blyth Valley community to share their knowledge about the coastal heritage that has shaped the identity of the community today.
What we did
Through interviews and focus groups we gathered local knowledge, oral histories, traditions and language.
We then used this to inform a series of participatory workshops and develop education and interpretation materials.
Changing perceptions and generating appreciation
This project raised awareness and improved access to Blyth Valley’s coastal heritage.
It changed people’s perceptions of their local coastal environment. It generated wider public appreciation of management issues.
We hope it will create a lasting benefit for future generations.
Funding was gratefully received from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
