Introduction
I joined SNES in September 2021 as an Outstations Operations Administrator. I joined Newcastle University in 2016 working in the Faculty of Medical Sciences working across a range of Research Programmes including the Newcastle Thousand Family Study (Red Spot Babies) & an NIHR Study looking at Social Prescribing. Prior to this I worked for Northumbria University as an administrator in School of Health & Social Care while I completed my Master of Research in Social Sciences (MRes)
Qualifications
MRes – Social Sciences
BSc (Hons) Criminology
My research interests’ lie in the Armed Forces; her Masters of Research examined the impact of institutionalisation on a veteran’s transition to “Civvy Street” and what, if any, detrimental effect this has. Working with a Scottish based Veterans Charity and the veterans themselves the research examined social issues such as homelessness, unemployment, drug & alcohol dependency and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The aim is to take this research further through a PhD and look at those who join the Armed Forces, in terms of the areas they come from, in relation to those areas they recruit heavily from. The research will examine the economic make-up of the areas, such as employment and educational opportunities, both past & present.
I have experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. While working at Northumbria University I contributed to two research projects looking at the relationship between housing and health, with a focus on older people.
- Aitken D, Hodgson P, Cook G, Lawson A. Facework and trust in facilitating health-focused housing interventions. PLOS One 2017, 12(4), e0176074.
