Guidelines for Acknowledgement
If you've used our Facility, please recognise and acknowledge it in your work. Find out how to acknowledge our role in publications and grant applications.
Although you pay to use the Facility, the full cost of any scientific core facility is not passed on to the end user.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences look at the quantity and quality of publications from the University research themes containing data with direct links to the PIVI usage. This is used as a metric of facility performance (alongside the number of usage hours and cost recovery).
Acknowledging PIVI in your papers, posters and talks you will help to ensure we continue to receive faculty subsidy and continue to offer excellent rates.
Using data generated within PIVI
In a publication that includes data generated within PIVI, please state:
“We acknowledge the Newcastle University Preclinical In Vivo Imaging Facility (PIVI) for assistance with the generation of imaging data”.
Where the IVIS has been used, please state:
“We acknowledge the Newcastle University Preclinical In Vivo Imaging Facility (PIVI) and Wellcome Trust Equipment Grant (087961) for assistance with the generation of imaging data”.
Working closely with PIVI team members
If a member of the PIVI team has worked closely with you on a project, you should acknowledge this.
It is good practice to include their name in the acknowledgement section at least.
In situations where they have made substantial intellectual input, you can offer them a co-authorship. This should be discussed at the earliest opportunity.
Paragraph for grant support
"All in vivo imaging outlined in this grant proposal will be conducted using equipment which are located in the Newcastle University Preclinical In Vivo Imaging (PIVI) facility. All instruments are supported, maintained and quality-controlled by a team of specialist. The facility will train and support users in all aspects of imaging (in vivo & ex vivo) sample preparation (labelling & staining), image acquisition, data analysis and data interpretation. Furthermore, team members will also provide advice on experiment design, animals models of disease and Home Office regulated procedures such as surgeries and routes of injection".
