Travelling to Accommodation

If you do not expect to arrive in Newcastle when the Meet and Greet Service is operating, or arrive at an airport other than Newcastle you will need to make your own travel arrangements to your accommodation.

Arriving by air

If you are arriving by air, into Newcastle International Airport, you can:

  • get a taxi from Newcastle Airport to your accommodation, which should cost around £20–£25. Arrow Cars are the Airport's resident taxi firm. Their desk is based inside of the terminal. You can book and pay for your taxi at the desk or you can book and pay in advance on their website.
  • get a Metro train into the city centre, which will cost £3.50 

Arriving by train

If you are arriving by train, into Newcastle Central Station (which is located in the city centre), you can:

  • get a taxi from Central Station to your accommodation, which should cost around £15
  • get a Metro train to the stop nearest your accommodation, which should cost no more than £3.50

Keep in mind that if you are travelling with a lot of luggage, you may be more comfortable getting a taxi than using public transport.

How to get to Newcastle if you arrive into the UK at the following locations:

 

London Heathrow Airport

There are several ways to travel to Newcastle from London Heathrow airport:

By air - You can fly into Newcastle International Airport direct from London Heathrow. The journey time is approx. 1hr 10 mins and there are up to four flights per day. The flight operator is British Airways.

By train - You will need to take the Heathrow Express to London Paddington then take London Underground (the Tube) from Paddington to Edgeware Road using the District Line. At Edgeware Road you will need to change to the Circle Line to get to London King's Cross Station. From London King's Cross Station you will be able to take a train to Newcastle Central station. The journey will take approximately 3.5-4 hours. There are multiple trains per day. We would strongly advise you to book in advance on either www.thetrainline.com or www.lner.co.uk

By coach - You can book coach transfers from London Heathrow to Newcastle through the National Express but you may need to change coaches mid journey. There are multiple departures each day and the journey time takes between 8-10 hours.

 

Manchester International Airport

There are several ways to travel to Newcastle from Manchester International airport:

By train - Trains go directly from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station in the city from there you will be able to take a train to Newcastle Central station. Please note you may have to change trains during your journey. The journey will take approximately 3.5 hours. There are multiple trains per day. We would strongly advise you to book in advance on either www.thetrainline.com or www.tpexpress.co.uk/

By coach - You can book coach transfers from Manchester International Airport to Newcastle through the National Express but you may need to change coaches mid journey more than once. There are multiple departures each day and the journey time takes between 6-9 hours.

 

Edinburgh International Airport

The easiest way to travel to Newcastle from Edinburgh International airport is by train:take a bus from the airport to Edinburgh Waverley train station and you can take a train direct to Newcastle Central Station from there. There are multiple departures each day. The journey time is approximately 1.5 hours. We would strongly advise you to book in advance on either www.thetrainline.com or www.lner.co.uk

 

Teesside International Airport

There are several ways to travel to Newcastle from Teesside International Airport

By train - You will have to take a taxi to Darlington Train station. You can take a train to Newcastle from here. The journey is approx. 45 mins. There are multiple trains per day. We would strongly advise you to book in advance on either www.thetrainline.com or www.lner.co.uk

By taxi - You could take a taxi diret from the airport to Newcastle, the journey time would take approximately 50 mins and the cost would be approx. £70

By coach - You will have to take a taxi to Darlington. You can take a coach to Newcastle from there. You can book it through the National Express. The journey will take approx. 2 hours and there are multiple departures each day.
