Welcome & Inductions

Welcome and Inductions

Explore the city, meet your classmates and make new friends.

For September starters the induction and orientation activities that take place are designed to help you settle into a new city, make new friends, and prepare yourself for the start of term. Some activities, like Welcome to NUSU, are optional. Some are compulsory.

As well as completing registration, you must attend induction activities organised by your school.

Welcome and Induction Programmes

Our flexible and enhanced induction programme for new students aims to provide you with a warm welcome and introduction to Newcastle University and Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU).

We’ll provide relevant and timely information and signpost you to support to help you make an effective transition to University.

The programme will introduce a framework of support for every student (academic, personal and peer), set out realistic expectations about university life, and help you to understand what is expected of you.

Starting on Monday 28th September you’ll be able to access our induction programme via Canvas (the University’s exciting new Virtual Learning Environment).

All information and activity will be offered online and we’ll send you full instructions on how to access the programme the week before term starts. Some activities may include on-campus opportunities, but these will be dependent on physical distancing requirements at the time and will follow Covid-19 safety guidelines

Your School/Institute Induction

All students will have specific welcome and induction sessions organised for them by their School/Institute. Details will be sent separately to you by your School/ Institute, or will be explained when you arrive.
