Top accolade for transport researcher

Phil Blythe, Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems at Newcastle University, was last night awarded the top accolade by one of the UK's leading transport organisations.

The UK Intelligent Transport Society presented Professor Blythe with the Hills-Rees award, given for outstanding personal contribution to the field.

Presenting the award, Society President Steve Norris said Prof Blythe had "an ability to bridge the gap between policy that needed new technology to work and innovative technology that enabled new policy to be set".

The award - which is named after transport pioneer and former Newcastle University academic Peter Hills and his colleague Neville Rees - was presented at the Society's annual dinner in London.
