Newcastle Professor selected as Government advisor

Professor Simin Davoudi has been selected as a member of the new Social Science Expert Panel for Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change). The panel’s purpose is to bring high quality multi-disciplinary social science advice to both departments.

Professor of Environmental Policy and Planning at Newcastle University, Professor Davoudi is one of just 12 academics chosen to provide social science advice to the government departments on research issues relating to food and farming, green economy, environment, energy and climate change policy.??She said: "I am pleased to have been appointed as a member of the new expert panel and am looking forward to working with my fellow panelists to advise Defra and DECC on a range of critical and strategic policy research issues."??A past President of the Association of the European Schools of Planning (AESOP), Professor Davoudi is also an elected member of the Academy of Social Sciences, a member of the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) Grant Assessment Panel C and a member of REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2014 Sub-Panel 16. ??She has held visiting professorships at the Universities of Amsterdam, Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Karlskrona in Sweden and serves on the Departmental Advisory Council of the University of Hong Kong. ??She led the UK Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Planning Research Network and served as a member of the DCLG (Department of Communities and Local Government) Expert Panel on Housing Markets and Planning Analysis. Professor Davoudi has also served on Expert Review Panels of several European countries’ national research programmes.
